A Little About Shade Tree Forge.
We are a family owned small business specializing in hand forged one of a kind iron work since 2005. Located in beautiful upstate South Carolina we strive to give our customers the absolute best products. Our products can be based on our designs or yours and each piece of work is completely hand forged in our shop, based on age old traditional practices. We heat and hammer out each detail to create one of a kind pieces of art. Using traditional practices does not mean that our clients can only see traditional designs we can also forge pieces with more modern styles using natural elements to achieve their specific needs. Jeff is the driving force behind Shade Tree Forge. In 2002 he started practicing this traditional art form in hopes of better understanding how people made things many years ago. Having been trained in a more traditional sense by Clay Spencor and Mark Aspery and assisting metal artist like John Boyd Smith has given Jeff an array of knowledge that helps him achieve traditional and modern influences in his work. Jeff has vast knowledge of his craft and has shared this with others at places such as Magnolia Garden's and Plantation in Charleston, SC., John C. Campbell Folk School, various tractor shows. He also teaches at his shop.

Jeff Hatfield "I started this business underneath a huge white oak tree in the back yard verses original plans and landscaping out in the field beside our house. Not really knowing of a forge name during summer of 2004, the extreme heat caused all forging that summer to take place in the great shade of this oak tree thus causing a major change in original plans for the shop. We proceeded to landscape under the tree and fill in the other area. While sitting in our swing hanging from this great white oak we were discussing how great the shade felt and the benefits it would give the shop being able to work most all year long and the idea for the forge name was born and has served us well ever since. It has been our goal here at Shade Tree Forge ever since our beginning to provide our customers with the best quality using actual hand wrought techniques. We started our business with the hopes of providing a small portion of our world with ironwork that will be treasured for ages and ages. All of our work will be able to be cherished and passed on for generations and thus allowing us to leave our mark here on this earth in hopes that this ancient craft will survive for years to come."
